~ Some of My Personal Poetry ~

DURANGO LIGHT

Afternoon light
Always, afternoon light
Warm-cold, yellow light
Old, vintage light
Falling across old weathered boards
Of a hundred snow-cold winters

Light
Crossing sparkling rapids
Of the Rio Animas

Haunted light
Filtering yellow through aspen leaves
Reflecting
From the glass of broken window shards
Of the mine cabins of long ago
Filtering quietly
Into dusty rooms.
Light of lives long past
Lives of the survivors
Lives of the dead
Light that leaves its mark
On the mountain side
The cold mountain
Long after the sun

Has set.

Of All My Mountains

Of all my mountains
Lofty and serene as
Old warriors against the north wind
I find the ones that
Made me hold back
Made me look down in doubt
Made me question this, that, whatever
Braced me, tried me
Opened me, taunted me
Chased me with snow-clouds full of lightning bolts
Splattered me with cold hypothermic rain
Threatened me with thousand-foot rock-tooth chasms
Spilled me
Drained me
Did whatever...
There was pain
Hard pain
In the climbing of
Them.

And in the night that followed
Loneliness
And inner pain.

Yes. Pain.

And yet
Because of them, bless them,
I felt her nearness like water flowing like never before.

I wanted her with me.

Her nearness, her Being, like
Deep, rich Life---
Coming and I felt
God in her touch,
Her warm liquid moments yes deep there and in
Her knowing eyes,
Her voice,
Piercing me and
Her smooth undulating feelings,
The rhythm of flashing creation there yes and in
Her coy and happy twisting night moves,
Her softness and smoothness
Her laughter her fingertips her spirit
Her words forever on paper and
Her voice her tone her breath
For a moment
Forever remembered
In the high air of her sweetness.

So they, the Mountains
My mountains
The mountains of fear
And pain
Made me melancholy
In the dark cold night
But their spell
Made me live
And they made me
Think of her
Love her

All the more.

Your Car

Today I saw it
Your car
But it really wasn't
Your car
But it brought back
The memory
Of you, your smile
And made me forget
Where I was
Just for a moment.

Then another driver
Got in
Drove away
But still I watched
Your car
Going

Away.

Moonlight's Silver Road

Moonlight's silver road
Takes me home to her wisdom and
All the
Uncertainty
Now stripped of its power of
Illusion
Is gone.
A paradox though-
The moon
Never really comes near
She rides the night
So far away.
And yet, she is like as blood,
Like as one with me
And in her face
And light
Though distant
Noble moonlight-
I find hope..
